As the war in Ukraine drags on, thousands of lives are lost and millions displaced, peace organizations including GPA continue to call for an end to war through diplomatic negotiations. As the upcoming NATO Meeting is happening soon in Madrid, we and others across the world are protesting its aggressive involvement and role in past and present conflict. On June 26th, over 30 people gathered in front of the CBC in downtown Vancouver to denounce NATO and call for Canada to get out of NATO. Member organizations of the Canada-Wide Peace and Justice Network (CWPJN) were present and their representatives gave speeches: International League of People Struggles in Canada affiliates (Just Peace Committee, East Indian Defence Committee and Samidoun Palestinian Prisoners Solidarity Network) as well as Mobilization against War and Occupation and the Global Peace Alliance-BC Society. A rep of the Marxist-Leninist Party also spoke. The speakers deplored the aggressive acts of NATO, past and present. They spoke against NATO member countries aggressive policies and support for war and militarism, especially that of the US and Canada. Furthermore, we pointed fingers at the CBC for its lies, misinformation and omissions on NATO, Ukraine and other crucial matters regarding war and peace. We gave out copies of the CWPJN statement and held conversations with passers-by. Global Peace Alliance emphasized the need for a caring world one that shares wealth, resolves disputes in a peaceful non violent manner and respects everyone’s diversity. In order to achieve peace, we must educate citizens of the present day realities, wars are profitable for the wealthy who benefit and run the military industrial complex and must be stopped. Wars are causing inflation and starvation for millions while others amass extreme wealth. A world of selfishness and greed is no longer tolerable.
